It was Nigel Slater who said "When they look like they should be thrown away, they are probably at their best." He was talking about mushrooms, but I liked the sentiment. A dollop of butter and a grating of lemon zest probably wouldn't do as much for me, but in the spirit of Nigel's words I am inhabiting a tiny place on the internet before I shuffle off into the compost.

2013 Already?

I have spent more time talking about writing than I have actually doing it - but this is all about to change!! Yes, I know I said that last year too, but this year I MEAN it.
In my defence, I have been busy doing other  "stuff." I've worked in a bookshop and I've qualified as a Librarian - both book related, but NOT the same as writing a novel (sighs)... I've had several short stories published in women's magazines but again, it's not the same as writing a novel...
On the plus side, I can say with confidence that if procrastination were an Olympic sport I would have medalled in it last summer...
My less bookish pursuits have included marrying the lovely Jules and having a fantastic daughter, Holly, who DOES write, and who has more talent in her little finger than I possess per se... but that's another story...and just to blow HER trumpet, she was a winner in the Under 16s Brit Writers Awards 2012 Short Story category: www.britwriters.com

And yes, I am unashamedly living vicariously through Holly at the moment. I like to tell everyone that she "inherited" my writing genes - but the simple truth is that Holly actually writes. I just talk about it...!
I also do other stuff, like going to work and running the household (Jules, stop laughing) - and pet management. This is VERY important. The guinea pigs would die if they weren't fed and watered, as as for the dog. I've been to training classes with him, and I now do everything that he wants me to.
I also make jewellery now and then - you can see one of my bracelets in the August 2011 edition of Vogue. Heady stuff - and to plug that particular website, it's: www.puttingonthecharms.co.uk
But THIS website is where I will publish my stories and my musings, my thoughts and my wisdom(!!), just to say that "I was here."

So, here I am...
